Chair of Nursing is an academic unit of Tallinn Health University of Applied Sciences including three study programmes: General nurse based on the curriculum for professional higher education, curriculum of master´s studies in Health Sciences and Emergency Medical Technician (vocational education). The Chair organises and develops work in the Simulation Centre and develops and instructs continuing education and training exercises in the field of nursing and health. The Chair also conducts research (incl. applied research) based on nursing education withing the chair and vocations, and across related fields and professions.
Study programme General Nurse has been based on NANDA-I classification since 2011. Chair of Nursing has been working on publishing book versions of NANDA-I diagnosis (2012-2014; 2015–2017; 2018-2020; 2021–2023), their translation process into Estonian and publishing it on paper. Tallinn Health University of Applied Sciences has been leading activities of 3N team Estonia founded in 2016 with the aim to develop patient-centered evidence-based nursing through implementing 3N (NANDA-International, Nursing Outcomes Classification, Nursing Interventions Classification) into practice.
The project “School at Hospital” was launched in 2014 as collaboration between Tallinn Health University of Applied Sciences, Foundation Pärnu Hospital and Estonian Nurses Union, the aim is to provide professional higher nursing education near home for people in Pärnumaa and Western Estonia. The first group of graduates of this professional higher nursing education graduated in January 2018, and currently there are 7th group of nurses studying at Pärnu Hospital. Nursing education following same principles was launched in Kuressaare in autumn 2019, in Haapsalu in February 2023 and in Rakvere in February 2025.
