Ulvi Kõrgemaa appointed Rector of Tallinn Health University of Applied Sciences

The Minister of Education and Research has appointed the current Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of Tallinn Health University of Applied Sciences (UAS), Ulvi Kõrgemaa, as the institution’s new Rector. According to Kõrgemaa, the greatest challenge for the university in the coming years will be maintaining top-level teaching quality and responding to the rapidly changing expectations of society. The new Rector’s term will begin on 1 July, when she takes over from Rector Ülle Ernits, who has led the institution since 2001.

Ulvi Kõrgemaa holds a higher education degree in nursing and a Bachelor’s degree in Law. She also holds Master’s degrees in Educational Management and Law. This year, she defended her doctoral dissertation, in which she examined the development of nursing over the past three decades. She has been working at Tallinn Health University of Applied Sciences since 2003, most recently serving as Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs.

The Rector was selected by a seven-member electoral committee, which submitted a proposal to the Minister of Education and Research for the appointment. The committee voted unanimously in favour of Ulvi Kõrgemaa’s candidacy. The Rector’s term of office is five years.

The Rector of Tallinn Health University of Applied Sciences plays a central role in the strategic leadership of the institution, ensuring high-quality teaching and development activities, and fostering cooperation with both Estonian and international partners.
